Bio
Energy Storage System (ESS) opportunities are highly sensitive to the Levelised Cost of Storage (LCoS). Lead batteries are a fundamentally low-cost battery technology but economic opportunities have been restricted due to the limited cycle life at high depths of discharge. ArcStore, a highly re-engineered lead battery has achieved an approximately sixfold lifetime increase over a traditional lead battery under an extreme duty cycle 100% depth-of-discharge cycling (BCIS-6) in third party testing. ArcStore batteries incorporate two core technologies; bipolar battery architecture and fabric structured electrodes. These technologies allow the four key failure modes that normally limit life to be managed providing a high capacity throughput with a low cost construction, thus proving a low LCoS.
This presentation will focus on;
- The four key failure modes that must be managed to achieve high capacity throughput with high active material utilisation (hence low product costs)
- How ArcStore manages these failure modes
- Cycle life test data
- The ArcStore manufacturing processes
