Innovative multiple quality test machine in the production line

Agenda for
5-9 September

Michael Wipperfürth
Vice President Sales, CMWTEC
The reliability of automotive batteries is it´s single most important feature, especially for the OEM market. To ensure reliability all automotive batteries are subjected to electrical load tests prior to shipment performed in accordance with industry accepted standards. It is essential that the energy discharged from the battery during test be minimized to avoid the cost and delay associated with recharge. When defining the ideal high-rate discharge test process one must consider these basic requirements.

Immediately after formation, and preferably, after post cleaning, the batteries are discharged at high current for a few seconds. The voltage under load at the end of test is determined and compared to nominal values resulting in a pass/fail decision.

This paper presents the capabilities of our universal Quality Test Software (QTS) in combining different test profiles to create a new approach to a high current discharge machine in terms of its programming flexibility and ability to accurately distinguish between acceptable and unacceptable batteries.

Additional internal resistance tests in combination with the high current test provide further insight into the quality of the battery.

It will be show how complementary evaluation criteria such as DCR, ACR and the CCV discharge curve vs. time can be implemented and combined by program selection.

The presentation concludes that the new generation of our End-Of Line Test machine (EOL) with Quality Software (QTS) allows a simplified programming of customized test and evaluation profiles to improve the reliability of results.
